This past weekend Jared and I took our third trip up to the Adirondack’s! Jared has fished Lake Champlain for years so we decided to check it out in the winter a few years ago and fell in love! It is absolutely beautiful in all the seasons but winter is magical! There is so much to do whether you are outdoorsy or indoorsy. We have always gotten an Air Bnb, but we loved the one we stayed in so much the first year we rented that one again this time!
It’s a cute cabin in Elizabethtown NY which is about 35 min from Lake Placid. It is on the property of the main house but its far enough away from the house you feel secluded!
Where and what we ate:
Smoke Signals- It’s BBQ restaurant and is VERY BUSY. They do not take reservations, we got there at 5:15 and didn’t end up sitting until 7:45. They do take down your phone # so you can go walk around the town while you wait! We shared the burnt end nachos and buffalo chicken dip. I got the meat sampler and Jared got the flatliner burger…yes that’s the name! The food is unbelievable and worth the wait!
Big Mountain Deli- We went here for breakfast but they also serve lunch! We shared a breakfast burrito which was amazing…but the best thing they serve is their crepes! They are SO GOOD!!!
Lisa G’s- They had the best wings I have ever had! I got the bourbon honey (???) I think that’s what it was it was bourbon something and I got filet for dinner and Jared got Meatloaf (I hate meatloaf but all the reviews said it was there best…he loved it!)
Log Jam- This was in Lake George on our way home! I got on stories and said we were stopping there and a ton of people recommended it! It was so good, such a cute cozy atmosphere. There is a salad bar (my fav) and I got the Bre burger and Jared got a bacon burger…SO GOOD.
We were not hungry on this trip as you can tell LOL. That’s what vacation is for…FOOD.
What we did and saw:
The shops in Lake Placid- The Olympic Games were held in Lake placid in 1932 and 1980 so the town there is so cute! There are a bunch of cute little shops along the Main St.
Snowmobiling- We went on a snowmobile tour with Farmhouse Snowmobiles in Serenac Lake. It was a blast!! It is $150 per ski for an hour and a half tour. I HIGHLY suggest getting your own…we did not and the back is a VERY rough ride. I am still sore LOL. It was absolutely beautiful and so much fun. Snowmobiling is a way of life up there’s there are dedicated roadways just for the snowmobiles!
Serenac Lake Winter Carnival- He took me here the first year and I loved it! They take giant ice blocks from the lake and make a castle out of them, it is unbelievable. It is really wonderful for kids also, they have games and all kinds of things going on! They do a different theme every year so it changes! Unfortunately the carnival is over for this year but the castle will stand until it melts!
Wildlife Reserve- There is an adorable little wildlife reserve by Whiteface mountain in Wilmington that has all kinds of animals! These are animals that were hurt in the wild and would not survive. There are wolves, coyotes, bears, birds, and many others! We love to see the wolves the most, they are such beautiful creatures and this year they gave us a little howling show! We miss the bears every year because they are hibernating!
Other things to do:
Olympic Events in Lake Placid, you can bobsled, ski jump, curl, and many other things! We have not done these but one year!
Hike- If you are outdoorsy there are TONS of hiking trails…they look pretty intense but I am sure there are many different level trails.
Ski/Snowboard- Whiteface mountain is right there, its beautiful!
Dog Sled- this makes me kind of sad but the option is there haha!
I am sure I am missing some other things but you will not be bored! The views alone are breath taking! If you are within driving distance it is 100% worth the drive for a long weekend!
Thanks so much for reading!
